Subject:Identify Maker and Marks
Posted By: Rachel Thu, May 02, 2013 IP: 172.1.88.235 I acquired this print second-hand, but I don't know much about it. I suspect it's a Japanese woodcut. Each color seems to be impressed into the paper slightly. Could you tell me what the writing says, and anything else you might know about it? Any information would be helpful. |

Posted By: Guy Fri, May 03, 2013 It's a Japanese woodblok print by Ogata Gekko (1859-1920) from the series 'Gishi Shiju-Shichi Zu' - print #7 'Sugino Juheiji Tsugifusa', (first) published in 1895. |

Posted By: Rachel Sat, May 04, 2013 Whoah! Yay! Any guesses about which edition I have? I did some Googling, and it looks like the red cartouche thing under Gekko's name changed periodically. Is it a date? I found 2 versions of my print in museums online, but one was printed in 1895 and one in 1902. |
