Subject:Country of origin?
Posted By: Miranda Sat, May 04, 2013 IP: 70.72.82.107 I'd appreciate any nudge towards the origin if these two wood panels. I 'assume' (maybe wrongly) they are Asian. Both are 30 inches by 48 inches (one inch thick board. |

In the picture on the left, there is a lion and an ox. The only lions in Asia live in the Indian state of Gujurat, so this may be another clue of the origins of the paintings. |

Posted By: Bill H Sun, May 05, 2013 Your panels make me think their painter was fond of Henri Rousseau (French - 1844-1910), who produced some remarkable jungle paintings, though never departed France (see link below). Another possibility is illustrations based on Judeo-Christian scripture, in particular the story of Noah, who built the ark that rode out the great flood with his family and pairs of all the animals aboard. |

Posted By: Willows Tue, May 07, 2013 The left hand picture is a version of the Peaceable Kingdom referenced in Isaiah 11: 1 - 10. See link below. |
