Subject: Help identifying artist mark on monochrome painting

Hello, community. I have a beautiful monochrome painting. It's not a print. It measures 3'4" tall, and 16" wide. That's just an estimate, because it's in a frame. It depicts a mountain top with with a water fall slowing down, and a single man rowing in a canoe. It's very beautiful, considering it took mastering 3D with only one color.
I looked at the paper with a loop, and it's painted on a light fibrous material. Maybe a scroll? I know it's very old. My grandpa was in the CIA, and brought it back from Asia. Asked my grandma if she had any info in it and she didn't know.
I need to know who the artist is. If it's valuable, than I want to re frame it because it's starting to fade in some spots.
Any help will be appreciated.
