Posted By: Jer Sun, May 12, 2013 IP: 84.30.34.213

We are trying to identify the mark on a pair of Japanese Satsuma vases. The marks has been decorated which is rather unusual?

If anybody can help me identify this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced for your help.

Dear Jer
Consider it definitely as a japanese kutani ware "九谷" (Kutani)
Cheers

Hi all,

Thats funny, I overlooked that but Matos is right; it's a Kutani piece. "Dai Nipppon Kutani sei ......zan Ga"? Who for the last part?

Regards,

Arjan

Dear Arjan
Here it goes:

大日本九谷製 ? 根定山畫
Dai Nihon Kutani-sei ? Ne jōsan Huà

Please note that:
1. I can not identify one of the words, and no one around me can understand it too;
2. the word "畫" is a very simple concept word anyway it means "painting".
I do hope this can improve your future researches.
Kind Regards
Matos (馬道智)
