Subject:Grandmothers Asian plate
Posted By: Chris Wed, May 15, 2013 IP: 124.171.85.191

My Mother inherited this plate. Does anyone have any idea of its background or who the makers marks on the back belong to? We would appreciate any information that can be provided about it. We love it valuable or not.

Hi Chris,

I can only help you with the impressed mark. This mark reads Yamatoku (Mountain virtue). In this form (written with katagana characters) it was most used in the period 1910-1920. I can't rule out that this is an example of Japanese porcelain which was decorated in China.

Regards,

Arjan
