Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help identify the artist and also what he / she is showing?
Thank you,
Dave

You have a Japanese woodblock print by Chikanobu. I will try to ID it from the info provided. Since I am not a Japanese speaker, it would be easier if you were to show the full print.

Cheers,
Stan

More of the picture.
Anyone have an idea who and what?

Thanks!

Other than a print of samurai on horseback, I can't add much more. I've looked through thousands of Chikanobu prints online and in museums and can't find your particular print.

Cheers,
Stan

Hi Stan,

Thank you VERY much for all your help.
With what you have mentioned, I also searched the online files, and could not find this particular print.

Thanks again,
Dave

It's a depiction of the downhill attack at Hiyodorigoe by Minamoto no Yoshitsune during the battle of Ichi-no-Tani in 1184.

Dave,

This artist used many "names", and thus the search would be lengthy. Some basic info about this artist for your research. Please scroll to the NAMES heading, on the wiki page.

You may want to use the kanji names on Google Japan, to yield better hits. Good luck.

URL Title :Toyohara Chikanobu (1838–1912)
