Subject:Large Stoneware/Porcelain Bird and Butterfly Vase

This vase (possibly jar) measures just under 12" tall and about 7" in diameter. I have no clue as to age, or why the top rim is cut and unglazed. It is what I consider heavily potted, not sure of exact weight maybe (2-3 pounds). The decoration is primarily on the side shown. The reverse has 3-4 butterflies like the ones shown on the front. The quality of decoration is better than what I've seen on modern reproduction (close up can be seen on link). Also it has a tad more color than shown in the photos, the trees are light green. Any help with age, origin, or function is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe
