Subject:Chinese Bowl - Any Ideas
Posted By: portlandantique Mon, May 20, 2013 IP: 98.246.196.10 Hi there, I found this bowl today and it is unlike any I have had before. I had a friend take a look and they told me the text is a poem and that it was made in the year of the Snake. Any ideas as to age, maker, or origin would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Posted By: Bill H Tue, May 21, 2013 Your Chinese pedestal bowl with "Qianjiang" style famille rose decoration appears to have a cyclical date of the Yihai year (Yi hai nian - 己亥年), or 1899. I believe that may have been the year of the boar. |

Posted By: Portland Antique Wed, May 22, 2013 Thank you so much for the information. It is nice to know that it is an antique. I am hoping to also discover if this piece was signed by the artist. There is no mark on the base. I have attached some extra images. Thanks so much. |

Posted By: Portland Antique Wed, May 22, 2013 I spoke with an expert on Qianjiang pottery and he informed me that the bowl was made by Zhang Zhi Yun (Zhang Zhi Ying). Apparently he is a fairly well known Qianjiang potter. Is any one familiar? All the best and many thanks. |
