Subject:Chinese Bowl - Any Ideas
Posted By: portlandantique Mon, May 20, 2013 IP: 98.246.196.10

Hi there, I found this bowl today and it is unlike any I have had before. I had a friend take a look and they told me the text is a poem and that it was made in the year of the Snake. Any ideas as to age, maker, or origin would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Your Chinese pedestal bowl with "Qianjiang" style famille rose decoration appears to have a cyclical date of the Yihai year (Yi hai nian - 己亥年), or 1899. I believe that may have been the year of the boar.

Use the forum search feature using "Qianjiang" as keyword to review relevant past discussions.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thank you so much for the information. It is nice to know that it is an antique. I am hoping to also discover if this piece was signed by the artist. There is no mark on the base. I have attached some extra images. Thanks so much.

I spoke with an expert on Qianjiang pottery and he informed me that the bowl was made by Zhang Zhi Yun (Zhang Zhi Ying). Apparently he is a fairly well known Qianjiang potter. Is any one familiar? All the best and many thanks.
