Subject:would you please identify the signature on this Asian vase?

Don't know if this is Chinese or Japanese. There is a small red stamp also next to the signature but it is faint and can't take a clear picture of it. The vase is about 8 inches tall and the surface on both inside and outside is all crackled.

Neither Chinese nor Japanese, this meiping vase is Korean. The signature, which is unclear appears to be 青山. I don't know how that is pronounced in Korean

I can't help with the signature, but it looks like a Korean Celadon Meiping vase with crane motif.

Cranes are usually portrayed among clouds.

The small size probably indicates it may have come from a museum gift shop.

Cheers

It says Green Mountain on the bottom, which could be Qingshan in Chinese, or Aoyama in Japanese. I did a quick search, and none of the places seem to be very famous for pottery. There are also a lot of places in China with that name.

modern Korean imitation of Goryeo celadon style, the mark reads 青山, but I don't know the Korean pronunciation.

This is a Korean celadon "plum vase" (maebyong) with a base mark meaning "Green Mountain" ("Cheng San" in the Yale system of transliteration).

This is an ancient form, which Korean potters have reproduced widely in modern times. I have no particular experience collecting Korean porcelains of any age, but others in the forum may be able to help further.

Best regards,

Bill H.
