Subject:Help Identify Bas Relief from Indonesia
Posted By: SurabayaMacan Mon, Apr 10, 2017 IP: 47.147.203.2

Hello,

Thank-you in advance for taking a look at these photos. A few years ago I was living in Eastern Java not very far from Borobudur Temple. I picked this up at a street antique market in Surbaya. I'm not expecting it to be of any worth. I assume it is a reproduction bas relief from the temple. The only thing of note on it is the stain from oil being poured over the image. I assume this is a carving of Queen Maya, the Buddha's mother.

Since it's so perfect, I'll guess not a real antique. But that's only a guess.

The interesting thing to me is the Buddha-type figure on the right, with tilted head. I've never seen such a thing, a "Buddha" with tilted head.
