Subject:Chinese Wood Carving
Posted By: BL Tue, Apr 25, 2017 IP: 69.86.17.48

I bought this woodcarving at a flea market in NYC this past weekend. It seems like an old piece and you can see traces of gold leaf paint that have eroded over time. The dimensions are approximately 14-15 inches high, 5-6 inches wide and 5-6 inches deep. I'm interested in any information concerning its age, where it was made and if it's possible to tell what segment of Chinese society this person represents. Thanks.

Your statue has a Manchurian costume, a 17th century period in China.

It is so ironic. The figure looks Vietnamese to me. Perhaps 18th century.
