Subject:Any information about Satsuma Pair?
Posted By: CV Fri, Jun 23, 2017 IP: 213.233.147.101

The four pictures tell some kind of story and the men in them are recognizable individual portraits of the same group of real people.

No markings at all.

Sadly one flare is completely missing. I don't care, I love them the way they are.

In my opinion are a good satsuma pair of late meiji period even if they are without mark. Probably in the four panels are represented some episodes of the legend of 47 Ronin or 108 Rebels. The most famous among them are Asano and Kira.
Kind regards

I add that the protagonist with the flute could be the general Minamoto no Yoshitsune a good fellow of the famous japanese hero Benkei. Often protagonists of episodes of Kabuki and Noh pieces of theatre.
Kind regards
