I recently purchased a nephrite dragon turtle. It has an indented circular top. Could anyone please let me know if this was an incense holder. It stands 5 inches tall.

scale with a chain saw. It appears to have been created
with a high speed grinder and hand held
power tools. No real creativity, talent or vision
here. Made to sell quickly.

Sorry, that does not look like Jade. You must do a scratch test. Take a strong needle, make a 3-4 mm scratch with enough pressure , and tell us if the scratch is black or white.

You are correct - i should have done the scratch test first. It scratches with a fingernail. What confused me was the weight combined with the translucency of the edges of the piece. There was earth in the crevices, so I considered that it could be an old piece. Perhaps it was made as a fake and then buried? Would you have any ides what stone would be translucent

No, just some acid thrown on it is enough to convince any tourist that it is old.
