Subject:Please help identifying this piece of art
Posted By: Janice Thu, Jun 29, 2017 IP: 2600:0387:0000:0802:

I have been given these pieces of framed art that belonged to a friend. I know nothing about them, and would appreciate any information, or even a direction for further research.
Are they prints or original? Japanese or Chinese? They appear to be rendered on rice paper, again, not sure. Thank you in advance.

I would guess they are a modern print, get a jewelers loop or a magnify glass and if you see tiny dot patterns with 4 colors red , blue, yellow, red its a lithograph. if not look for a crease around outside edge and if colors are solid it may be a etching and older and less would have been produced. Best guess. I am not an expert just trying to help. Nice pictures , good luck

Hi
If these artworks are on handmade Japanese paper it will be kozo......made from the bark of the mulberry tree, not 'rice paper' as you are thinking.
That being sad, if they are on a Japanese paper they are unlikely to be etchings or lithographs which are western techniques and normally executed on smoother western paper.
My magnification is not good, but they look like woodblock prints to me.
Regards
Sue

Hello again.
These prints are not made up of dots. Under a loop it appears to be maybe ink. But it's definitely not a digital print.
Is there any way to identify a wood block without taking them out of the frame?
I have had someone suggest the first print in this post, with the two women and the baby is probably done by the artist Uemura Shoen. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for your help. This forum is very generous with their knowledge, and I really appreciate it. It's a tough area of art to research if you don't know how or where to start!
Thanks again, Janice
