Subject:Large Vase Made in Japan
Posted By: ND Sun, Jul 02, 2017 IP: 173.169.39.228

I am looking for information about this vase. It's about 13" tall; one side has both a man and woman - the other side has just a larger image of the man. I have more pictures if needed. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking at it!

Your vase is in typical Satsuma Japanese style.

The mark underneath is very similar to:
Seizan, red mark, which refers to Meiji period (1868-1912).

You can find this on
http://www.gotheborg.com/marks/satsuma.shtml

However the stamp "Made in Japan" easily tells you that's its modern piece, not older than from second half of 20th century.

Four character marks on top it a Japanese way to write the numbers, If im right.

This is a Satsuma vase with images of the goddess Kannon (woman with white face) and some immortals.
The mark spells Seizan 清山.
Probably early Showa Period 1926-1940.

Regards,
Martin.

Japanese Satsuma Pottery hand painted vase with morriage decoration dates around the middle of the 20th century possibly a bit earlier.
