Subject:unknown Chinese paintings
Posted By: Jacob Thu, Aug 24, 2017 IP: 79.118.163.195

Hello,

I got these two Chinese paintings on silk. I do not know anything about them. Are they from the Republic period or before ? What school do they belong to ? Are they of any value ? Any information will be much appreciated !

I think they belong to two artists - the signatures and different. And I tend to believe they might be some kind of copies of old paintings.

Thank you very much,

Jacob

1st picture,
The inscription too small I can't read it.
2nd picture,
Inscription reads,
天門破陣 Tianmen Battle Array
The picture depicts the legendary heroine of
Nothern Song Dynasty general Mu Guyin at the battle of Tianmen with the Liao) Khitan) Dynasty forces.
壬癸夏五月中旬 Rengui Year (1992) Summer, Mid
May
The dating uses the so called Mingguo (Taiwan)
calendar.(Two heavenly stem side by side, (Conversion table can be found on the net.)
Signature reads,
培義 Pei Yi
Can be either courtesy or full name.
Seemingly Taiwanese painter.
I could not find any painter under this name on Google Taiwan browser.
Seal reads same.
With regards,
