Someone mailed me for info about this beautiful Japanese Satsuma vase.
In my opinion it's a late Edo, early Meiji vase with signature 夫一 which can mean "otto ichi" = husband 1 (????) or something like Fuichi, Fuitsu or Fukazu. Fakazu is the only name which came up with these characters in the Japanese name dictionary.

So is Fukazu right? Or wrong? Or do I misread the first character 夫 and is it something else?

Any opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Very interesting vase Martin. I agree at least early Meiji Period. I haven't seen much pre-Meiji Satsuma, not that it didn't exist. Can you make out the Kanji in the red seal? The overglaze blue enamel is quite an unusual mark I think. The design is multiple double gourds to contain much good luck/magic.

Thanks for your response and no, I can't make out the kanji in the red seal (Kakihan). I found something on the net about blue Shimazu circle with cross:

A blue Shimazu family crest (circle with cross) above the artist’s signature might indicate that this piece was possibly made for the Shimazu family itself, since blue was the color of the Shimazu clan.
