Subject:Could someone confirm if these trinket boxes are vintage?

Hi!

Could someone be so kind to confirm if these are vintage - 20th century Chinese ceramic trinket boxes?

Thanks so much!

Lissa,

These are Japanese, the mark is saying: Dai Nippon 大日本 (Great Japan) Satsuma 薩广 Yaki 焼
(Satsuma ware) Gyokushu 玉秀 Ga 画 (Painted by Gyokushu).
Plus the Shimazu crest on top (circle with cross). Probably Late Meiji / Early Taisho Period (1900-1920) in my opinion.

According Gotheborg.com:
Handwritten Dai Nippon marks together with the artist’s signature date to the Meiji Period (1868-1911), reflecting the greatly increased nationalism of that period.

Regards,
Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thank you so much for taking the time to communicate all this information on Japanese history and its notable craftsmanship, you have given me the tools to narrow my research and discover so much more.

Kindest regards,

Talissa
