Subject:Buddha on horse Kanthaka: Origin, Age, Common motif?
Posted By: Gakusei Tue, Nov 07, 2017 IP: 91.97.248.235

Recently I purchased a small bronze statue (15,5 cm heigh, 14 cm long and 550 g heavy).
The statue shows certainly the young Buddha, Prince Siddhartha, on his white horse Kanthaka.
I would like to learn where the statue was made, its possible age and whether this is a common motif in buddhist art of metallic objects.
Thanks for considering to teach me.

This is Thai. There is a similar piece in eBay which identifies it as "deity riding horse, c.1900" but it looks like a more recent piece to me.

Hello Michael,

thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately my search on eBay was not successful. In any case I know the country of origin now.

Regards, Gakusei
