Subject:Mystery Ginger Jar - Any Ideas?
Posted By: CV Tue, Nov 07, 2017 IP: 109.77.169.177

There is a faint residue of pattern two blue lines top and bottom and other abstract. The clay is pinkish and speckled with iron ore like currants in a cake. It's not very heavy (I wouldn't discount that if it was intended to transport goods), the glaze that is there shows no wear, only erosion and rust spots.

I am guessing it is one of three things:
1) A very old jar that sat in water from almost new (explaining the lack of wear to glaze and the rust spot erosion)
2) A truly stellar example of the art and science of faking rust spots to excess
3) A bit of both

Any ideas?
