Subject:Help needed to determine age of tea cup
Posted By: Robyn Wed, Dec 06, 2017 IP: 68.9.80.218

Hi

Please help with determining the age of this tea cup. I think it may be kutani made in the early 1900's based on the shape of the handle. It is eggshell porcelain. The porcelain has been "folded" to create the peony tea cup.

I may not be able to help much, but I think if from continental Europe it could be older, but it looks possibly like the royal Sealy items I have seen. 1940s roundabount. I have been trying to research some of my wife’s cups that are in “her” room, and found it very difficult. The hanles, bases, and painting are all there is to go by in many cases. Yours looks Japanese to me. The China cupboard is a good website to look at different styles of English handles etc., but I have not found a similar site with Japanese or other European examples laid out. Perhaps a more experienced person can give you a better answer.
