Subject:Woodblock Print? of a vine. Japanese or Chinese?
Posted By: Dan Sat, Dec 16, 2017 IP: 72.132.188.189

I believe this is a print although it has paint which is thick, almost like gouache. It is numbered so probably part of a folio or book on plants. I am looking for any information on it, I especially want to know if it is Japanese or Chinese and what is written in the corners. Thanks

This is a japanese print.
Inscriptions (Left)
四季花卉の巻 Volume of Flowers of the Four Seasons
合名會社芸艸堂刊 Unsodo General Partnership Company
Publishing
(A Japanese graphic art publisher founded in 1891, still in business in Kyoto "Unsodo Co.")
Inscription (Right),
朝顔 Morning Glory
中川巌 Nakagawa Iwao (Name of Artist)
(For the time being I am trying to find out something about the artist)
With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you very much for the information.
I have one other print from this series. It looks like it is by a different artist but not certain.
