Some others. These do not seem to have any maker signatures...

The first two look like they are hardstone bottles. The carving is pretty pedestrian. The last (18 Louhans) one looks a little better. Is it carved wood?

Cheers,
Stan

Wow, thank you very much Stan. The last one is carved wood indeed. They were collected over a period of 50-60 years from about the 1930s possibly. I don't have a developed eye as you do, but I think these other two are stone as well?

Full disclosure, I am not an expert. More of an interested amateur. We have about 40 snuff bottles. Some are good. Some are crap. We bought a collection of 30+ at auction and the lot varied from valuable to junk.

I can't say too much about the first one. From here it is hard to tell what the material is. I am not impressed with the workmanship.

I like the second one more, but I am suspicious. It is supposed to be turquoise. If you read the links I gave you, there was an exchange where someone was questioning whether one of ours was turquoise or an imitation. When I see dirt like that, I think that it was deliberately applied to make the purchaser think it is older than it is. If that is the case, then the material is suspect as well.

Cheers,
Stan

Thanks so much. "Interested amateur" or no, I'm learning a lot about snuff bottles and it's been both really helpful and interesting. Thanks a bunch! This collection has over 30 bottles which she collected since about the 1930s, and seems to be a mix of both fun more common looking ones and nice ones. Some (not posted) may be ivory as well. A lot to learn...
