Subject:Chinese Character Identification on Painting
Posted By: Miano Wed, Feb 21, 2018 IP: 10.2.225.133,120.28.

Hello Friends,

I would like to identify the artist and/or period.

It is a scroll, ink on paper, has calligraphy and no seal. Would you be in a position to translate the characters, advise any artist attribution and the period(60 year cycle)?

Kind regards,

Miano

Inscriptions on the scroll read,
日本最初 - The first Japanese
大辯才天 - Great Benzaiten
Benzaiten is a Japanese Buddhist goddess (aka Saraswati
in Hinduism)

There is no date or name of artist - I would date it
to late Edo or early Meiji period.

With regards,
I.Nagy
