Posted By: Spartakos Thu, Feb 22, 2018 IP: 49.49.237.57

Bought it few years ago at a flea market, would like to find out more about it. It has a signature and stamp but stamp has faded. Thank you.

I think the picture is Japanese,
The inscription is the title of picture,
春峯 - Shunpō - Peaks in Spring
Unfortunately the seal is illegible.

With regards,
I.Nagy

attractive brushwork. Japanese, mid 20th century? art name perhaps 春峯, but I. Nagy is likely to have a better reading of the first character

Although the imprint is not good, I would read it,
吉峰(峯) - Kippō - as art-name
Yoshiooka as surname
The signature in this perspective should be read
吉峯 - Kippō or Yoshimine

I could not find artist under this name neither on net nor in my handbooks, however, I`ll keep in evidence to continue looking after it.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Might be an unknown artist from early-mid 20th century, that what frame looks like. However the paper turned so dark that it got my interest. Thank you for your help, much appreciated.
Best regards

Hello
Speaking purely from a street point of view I would keep hold of this one. The stamp shouldn't have faded unless kept in direct sunlight for years, which would show fading in other areas. Its, from my point of view a very well executed work but its age has to be considered mid 20th century onwards. Seals normally last a long time so why hasn't this one? I would love this on my wall. It is a beautiful piece of art....

I was blaming the poor seal ink quality for the fading, but I agree with you, it does look good even in its condition, somehow it managed to draw my attention among the pile of dusty old paintings. One day I will pull it out of its frame and give it a better examination, who knows it might be even worth more than 15usd I paid for it.
