Subject:Chinese Wanli (like) Vase
Posted By: RobT Tue, Feb 27, 2018 IP: 120.29.49.207

Hi, again, this is another item from a small collection that my father purchased in the mid 1950’s from an Estate auction of a friend. Apparently he was a missionary in China during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Although I have become very fond of this piece I suspect it cannot be from the Ming Dynasty Wanli reign. The style of painting of the Dragon and Phoenix seems unusual. I have not been able to find another hexagon Gu vase that has this form. There are a few small defects on the glaze and rust spots. I have not colour corrected the photos although I have made them a little lighter to show more detail. Once this is posted I will add more photos. Interestingly the base has been made to fit the vase as the hexagon of the vase is not perfect. Any advise on this vase would be greatly appreciated. Rob
