The marks reads: Watano 綿埜 Sei 製 = Made by Watano (Kichiji). Kutani ware, anywhere from 1890 till 1930.
Watano Kichiji was a potter born in Kaga, Ishikawa prefecture. He started his studio in around 1876 in Kobe and in 1880 he exported Kutani ware overseas from his business house in Yokohama. He died in 1934.
He was on the list of Japanese potters in the official catalogue of exhibitors at the 1893 World's Columbian Exhibition (Chicago World's Fair).
The Watano pottery studio lasted for 3 generations, each generation had a different 2nd character for "no" in Watano.
Several artists were painting / decorating pieces for Watano, like: Hakuken, Ishiura, Moriyama, Muraken, Nakagawa, Nishimura and Itsuzan.
Regards,
Martin.
