Subject:What is this?
Posted By: Kathy Metzger Tue, Mar 06, 2018 IP: 98.15.190.25

This just came to me from my family. Can you please tell me if this is Chinese cloisonné, and from what time? Thank you. Kathy

The motifs on the collar and base are Japanese, and the midsection seems to be a Japanese riff on the ancient Chinese taotie "beast face" design.

This seems to me as if it could be an older 19th century piece, but many of these were also made in the first decades of the 20th century.

Your vase seems more carefully worked than the more recent pieces, and has a nice patina on the copper.
