Subject:Satsuma mark
Posted By: mario Tue, Mar 20, 2018 IP: 2.40.185.198

Can You help me to identify the mark written on this Satsuma plate? Dai Nippon and ? I think it was produced in the period 1920 - 1940. Do you agree?
Thank You very much.

Mario,

I agree with the period 1920-1940.
The mark reads:
- Top line: Dai Nippon 大日本 (Great Japan) from right to left.
- Middle line: Go 五 (five - 5) in a square.
- Bottom line: Abe 阿部 (which is the name of the maker) from right to left.

I have not found any information about this Abe, it might be a small family business, a potter or a decorator.
I did find another mark that looks like it.
See pictures.
Regards,
Martin.
