Subject:Need help identifying mark on Japanese Meiji Bear
Posted By: RFM Mon, Apr 16, 2018 IP: 2601:281:c202:b68a:f

Request your help in identifying the signature on the bronze bear. Unfortunately, someone scratched off the surface to better see the signature. The bear is huge, weighs 21 pounds.
thanks much!

The signature reads 'Atsuyoshi saku' (厚義作). His work was often commissioned by the Maruki Company.

This craftsman is not to be confused with Miyabe Atsuyoshi (宮部篤良).

Late Meiji period (1900-1910).

Guy.

Thanks much Guy!
Do you know of an appraiser that give me an idea on value. I will attempt to sell the bear but I have no idea of its value.
cheers!

I found this link which seems to be the same artist so I am guessing Chriaties may take it. They have a few although I couldnt find a bear. https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot/a-bronze-sculpture-signed-atsuyoshi-saku-and-5560935-details.aspx
