Subject:Please need help to know info about porcelain plaque
Posted By: Ramiro sabatini Sat, Apr 28, 2018 IP: 83.33.25.80

Hello
I am new here.
I am a art lover. And I specially love antique porcelain vases and plaques from China.
Recently my wife bought me this framed porcelain plaque.
I really would appreciate info you can provide me ( period, name of the artist).
Thank you very much. Have a good afternoon.

The inscription purports the plaque to be by Cheng Yiting (程意亭 - 1895-1948), a member of the noted group of Jingdezhen porcelain painters called the "Eight Friends of Zhusan". It has a cyclical date of the Bingzi year, which most recently fell in 1936 and 1996. Cheng was a master of "Flower & Bird" motifs, and painted some of his best works around 1936. In my estimation, based on having seen many of Cheng's authenticated pieces, including the one at the link herein, I tend to believe your plaque has more in common with the less accomplished works of Cheng's many modern imitators. If the image URL doesn't work, please peruse his great detail in the brush-pot at the link below, and I think you might agree.

Best regards,

Bill H.
