Subject:Bronze Chinese immortal token thinger?
Posted By: Brandon mccloskey Mon, May 07, 2018 IP: 173.188.16.27

I was wondering if anybody could tell me what this is or what it came off of please? If its old? :) Its very well done, I can imagine it being on a censer or one of those hats but its just a shot in the dark.

This is an image of the Daoist Longevity God, which may have been made for wearing devotionally as an amulet, inside a small case that hangs by a chain around the devotee's neck. Here's a link to an eBay auction of such a Buddha amulet. Since there are eight principal Daoist immortals, there probably would be other amulets for each, though I'm more used to seeing the deities in larger images.

Thank you for your response Bill, helpful as always :) I was wondering if it may be something of that nature but it only being one sided and a repousse made me think it was attacked to something larger.. any thought?
How old do you think it is? I found it in a dusty old box of junk.

I suppose it could have been attached to an easel-type prop to serve as a place card holder for birthday celebrations. This is the only picture I can find of one. I can't find one at the moment showing the back.
