I believe this to be Chinese, the mark reads: Da Ming Xuande 大明 宣徳.
The Xuande era is from 1426 till 1435, but I don't believe it's that old. Perhaps late 19th, early 20th century.
Regards,
Martin.

What is a calligraphy pot?

Looks like the object was cast in parts with the legs and mark soldered on. The apocryphal mark reads 大 明 宣 德 meaning “great Ming Xuande” alluding to the renowned Ming dynasty Xuande period bronzes.
