Subject:Figurine with scroll ID: Li Bai, Laozi, ?
Posted By: Cten Wed, Jun 20, 2018 IP: 100.0.197.138

Bought as gift for a friend - not expensive and not represented as ancient by shop-owner. Hoping to be able to provide more information to recipient. Subject, mineral (alleged to be jade, but...), provenance (most stuff in that shop is Chinese)? Max dimension is 10 cm.

There are two very faint inscriptions on the base; sorry I couldn't get better photos even with side-lighting.

Thanks for any guidance.

P.S. - maybe it's just the pose or the pale-green stone, but just having this on my desk is relaxing. Could it be a mystical avatar of mellowness?

Confucius, according to the base

very much obliged, Rat. I had hoped that the subject was Confucius when I bought it, but the shopkeeper couldn't read the inscription and I wasn't able to find a similar image on the Web. Now I can add a nice copy of the Analects to the gift.

Thanks again for the assistance!
