Subject:Japanese Marks ??
Posted By: Laura Meyer Thu, Jun 28, 2018 IP: 50.34.241.34

Hello,
I received a lovely metal trinket box with a peacock embossed on it. There are markings on the bottom. Please help with identifying. Thank you so much

It's a Japanese box.
The 4 characters I recognize:
? ? 本 日
造 製 ? ?
Read it from right to left, meaning:
Nihon 日本 (= Japan)
Seizo 製造 (= Manufactured)
That's all I could find out.
Regards,
Martin.

The most essential part of maker's mark is hidden
behind the shade of nipple. What I can read is
日本東京 - Japan, Tokyo
xx製造 - xx Made

I.Nagy

Thank you for the detailed clear photos, and sorry for the late answer due to my absence from home.
The full reading of marking,
日本東京山林製造
Nihon Tōkyō Yamabayashi Seizō
Japan, Tokyo, Yamabayashi-made
It does seem to be an unknown workshop.

With regards,
I.Nagy
