Posted By: Michael Tue, Feb 12, 2019 IP: 2a02:a03f:56fa:8e00:

hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me with identifying the artist I believe the signature and seal reads 白水 Hakusui but I can't link an artist on the net to this scroll.
Thank you in advance

Best regards,
Michael

Signature and seal,
白水 - Hakusui

Presumably, Amemori Hakusui 雨森白水 1793-1881
Painter of late Edo period and early Meiji era from Kyoto. Learned painting at Matsumura Keibun and Nishimura Nantei. Was good in landscape and bird painting.
(I could find only two reference pictures on the net with somewhat similar signature and seal - not perfectly the same)
Other painters with name Hakusui
Ueda Hakusui 上田白水 -1772 (No available signature and seal sample)
Yamanaka Hakusui 山中白水 1902- (Different signature and seal)
Izumikawa Hakusui 泉川白水 18752-1965 (Different signature and seal)

With regards,
I.Nagy
