I got this ceramic vessel a wee while back (I really don't know what to call it), and a friend suggested it was Chinese in style.
It looks like something that was practical rather than for art, as the inside has a shiny glaze (presumably to make it hold liquid) which was then rather unceremoniously tipped out before firing, leaving a glazed section on the rim. The outside has a weird green/ochre glaze that's a little shiny in places but mainly matte in others. I don't know if this is just some sort of odd glaze or if it's wear over time.

One of my books on Chinese ceramics listed the triangular banding pattern as of the Shang dynasty, although the form and general feel of the piece doesn't strike me as so. I wouldn't be surprised if it was something made 2 years ago as a 'rustic' vase in Japan, but I'd appreciate opinions from anyone who knows more about Chinese ceramics than I do before I completely discount it as modern.
