Subject:Help with marking on Jade pendent
Posted By: Brett Sat, May 25, 2019 IP: 69.113.7.85

Tested with sharp pin and couldn't scratch it. Jade or maybe some other hard stone? Any idea on what the marks say? The carving doesn't look to bad to my amateur eye. Thanks for any help.

Scratch test has to show a white or black line, otherwise, you did not use enough pressure.
a Better photo would also help, using more light.

Thanks for the comment. I am sure that I pressed hard enough it did indeed make a line on the piece when I tested. Which was a blackish/gray line of the steel coming off onto the piece. It is definitely harder than steel, but whether it is jade or bowenite I am not sure.

Hi Brett,
I am unable to determine said calligraphy as I can't speak or read said dialect.
The way that the outer frame of the carving appears to be only slightly worn against the inner carving that appears heavily worn suggests IMO that this carving is fairly modern.
Also the depth and style of the carving itself suggests modern.

Thanks for the comment. I assumed it was probably more modern, but I was wondering if maybe it was an artist signature or a poem of some kind.
