Subject:Opinion on Japanese Painting
Posted By: John A. Fri, Jun 07, 2019 IP: 67.189.4.207

I was wondering any idea on age of this painting of a Japanese Woman. I was thinking it was late 1800 or early 1900 but was wondering on the forum experts thoughts. It is unsigned and the back is put together with wood joints and no nails.

I think your painting may be Chinese in origin as the facial features, dress, and framing all point that way.
I'm not sure about age, but if I were to hazard a guess I would say possibly late Qing as the painting style, subject, and long nails are indicative of that period (it could, however, be a later piece painted in an older style and of a classical subject). There is a very similar painting to yours at the URL I've provided.

URL Title :Similar Painting

It was truncated. There is a limited length for the link. For long URLs, include them as text in the body of the post (as you just did).

Cheers,
Stan

This should be a Chinese "reverse-glass" painting rather than a Japanese portrait. Like everything else, these too have been forged in recent years, so compare to vetted examples or seek out specialized expertise

From the garment and hairstyle, notwithstanding the girl's face, I suggest this is Chinese not Japanese
