Subject:Unidentified blue/white plate - Asian?
Posted By: Beege Thu, Jul 25, 2019 IP: 2a02:c7d:2a2d:7500:4

Hallo all.
I think this plate it is hand-painted, but it does not look like its from the far east. There are no markings, it does not seem (to my amateur eye) very old and it is 22.5cm diameter.
Does anybody recognise the style...or even the maker?
Thank you.

I have a similar plate, though slightly larger. Mine has the same style-ish of the small flowers and I have been told it is either genuine or repro 'Spanish Moorish Maiolica' from 14th or/to 19thc.
So I think it could be either in that Spanish Moorish area or another type of European maiolica...but that's only a guess, I could easily be wrong. :)

That's very interesting PotteryAdventure, thank you for your input.
I can certainly see the similarities in design and that your plate has considerably more age than mine appears to have, so maybe mine falls into the repro category. Yours also looks to be a very shallow plate (no real depth in the bowl)...like mine.
Can anyone else shed light onto our plates?
Thank you.
Jack

I have exactly the same plate. I bought it in Jerusalem fifteen years ago. The shop had a lot of such plates. They were definitely made somewhere in the Middle East, most probably in Turkey.
