Subject:Chinese Reign Character?
Posted By: Jim Wendel Mon, Aug 19, 2019 IP: 80.216.71.86

Hi! I love the details on this pottery, but I have no idea if its replica or background of it (Its from an action bought by my mom).

I really tried to Google the symbols. But..Yeah..No clue..I saw "Great"..But couldn't find or make out the rest of the symbols ; )

What do you think?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Or maybe more like Japanese Satsuma after checking other posts? But still, if anyone have any clues, that would be great!

Indeed Japanese Kyoto Satsuma ware.
The mark reads: Dai Nippon 大日本 (from right to left) and Satsuma 薩广Saku 作 (Great Japan, Satsuma product).
Date 1900-1920.
Regards,
Martin.

Seems to read
大日本薩ナ作
(made in Satsuma of Imperial Japan)
which is strange to me because Satsuma 薩摩 here is written SatsuNA 薩ナ.

Also the use of 作 seems atypical to me but perhaps that's because I am unfamiliar with Japanese practices.

Ah, looks like Martin Michaels has cleared that up nicely...
