Subject:Marks on base of vase.
Posted By: Julia Tompsett Sun, Sep 22, 2019 IP: 2a00:23c5:8e1f:7e00:

My mum inherited this vase from an elderly neighbour who always maintained it was worth a lot of money (we’ve heard that before!) I’d like to know it’s age and what the marks are! There is some damage, but is it actually worth anything?

I can only help you for a part.
The vase is Japanese Kutani ware, marked with Kutani 九谷, but I can't figure out the bottom left Kanji character, the top left is Gyoku 玉, the 2 together spell a name, but I don't know which.
Date circa 1900-1920.
The damage decreases the value a lot, however, the quality of this vase is not worth repairing it.
Regards,
Martin.

Martin,

I read it as 'Kutani Gyokushû'(九谷 玉集).

Thanks, Guy, I think you're right.
Much appreciated.
