甲午孟秋造於 -Made at the Beginning of Autumn in the Year of Wood-Horse (...1834,1894..)
劉訓賢翁之圖 - Picture of the Virtuous Old Man Liu Xin (Title)
金岱逸人典明 by Jindai-yiren (Jindai the Recluded)- Pseudonym -, Dianming - Courtesy name or given name -
Upper seal,
典明印 - Seal of Dianming
Leisure seal,
凡徳 - Ordinary Virtues
The following story is related to the picture:
When a Tang Dynasty rich man called Liu Xin invited people to praise his peonies, many buffalos were teathered to the gate. The people said that these were Mr. Liu's black peonies.
Inscription on the box,
雪中能山水 - Snowy landscape
The inscription is written Japanese. (The alternative cursive kana form of the genitiv auxiliary particle 能 is revealing).
That is this box doesn't belong to the above picture.
Unfortunately, I could not find artist with the above pseudonym and given name.
With regards,
I.Nagy
