Subject:Need help identifying paintings/prints
Posted By: Ave Sun, Nov 17, 2019 IP: 92.32.187.19

Hello!

I obtained these paintings/prints by chance today and I have no idea what they are or where they came from. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards

Your prints are as follows:

1) This print is based on a print by Kitagawa Utamaro. Here is an original at the Boston MFA:

2) TBD - I'll work this one later when I have some time.

3) This print is by Kitagawa Utamaro. It appears to be an original. Here is an original in the Toyko National Museum:

4) TBD

The problem is that the two remaining prints have no signature or other identifier on them. Likely, they are one panel of a triptych. I performed a bunch of image searches and came up dry. The last print is available as a repro print online, but it is attributed to Anonymous.

My guess is that the artist of both prints is Toyohara Chikanobu, but I can't prove it. Even guessing the artist, my searches produced nothing.

Cheers,
Stan
