Subject:Japanese print by Keibun?
Posted By: Tom Aspden Thu, Nov 21, 2019 IP: 91.125.158.207

Hi, I have this print with red characters written down the side, and I wondered if somebody could translate it, along with the main signature/seal. I would however point out that the much smaller writing may not be very easy to see, so if you need better pictures, I'll try my best to provide them

Thanks, Tom

Matsumura Keibun 1779-1843
Print from the illustrated book Keibun Kacho Gafu vol. 2

signed Keibun, with red artist's seal below Keibun

Book title is given in red to the right, the left describes the publishing details but it is too patchy for me to make out.

Your print is from "Keibun kacho gafu" 景文花鳥画譜 (Keibun's Album of Flowers and Birds) printed in 1891. We have a number of prints from the series.

Cheers,
Stan

Thank you all for your replies! They have been most helpful, especially I. Nagy, for deciphering the text on the left, I can understand why it was difficult!

Tom
