Subject:ID of old Chinese scroll
Posted By: John Lord Tue, Jun 09, 2020 IP: 2001:8003:5103:1300:

The scroll (105 x 51cm) has a penciled inscription on the rolller,"Cheng Pan-vh'iao [Zheng Banqiao]". I would be grateful for a translation of the Chinese script and the signature. Also, for any thoughts on whether or not this is an original.

Not the original, reproductions are widely available for sale, e.g.: https://bit.ly/39bVc21

Mounting,
鄭板橋蘭作 - Orchid painted by Zheng Banqiao
Signature,
板橋鄭燮 - Banqiao Zheng Xie

According to museum specialists most of Zheng Xie's
paintings in folk collections are fakes!
I know nowadays, seals cannot be used for identification, but the upper seal 板橋 (Banqiao)
is not included in the largest Chinese painters'
signatures and seals dictionary - 94 seals prints of Zheng - The lower 鄭燮 (Zheng Xie) is slightky different in details.
I also cannot understand the poor quality of mounting repair in case of such a famous artist.

With regards,
I.Nagy
