Possibly Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 500 to 330 BCE.
Middle Eastern Islamic Copper Libation Bowl / Dish
These small shallow libation bowls were hammered from a sheet of copper, and used for holding wine during rituals and ceremonial settings.
Heavy oxidation and measures 6 1/8" x 1" with eight petal motif in the center and surrounded by wheat ears and palmettes.
XRF (X-ray fluorescence) test revealed:
98% copper
1% lead
less than 1% iron.
If someone here has knowledge for Middle Eastern metallurgy, I would greatly appreciate knowing how those metals content numbers might contribute towards more exactly dating this ancient copper.
I can only post three pictures. Will post some close up pictures after this topic is approved.
