Subject:Genuine or Fake Pig Dragon
Posted By: Henry Tsai Wed, Aug 26, 2020 IP: 120.29.73.185

This was told to me as being excavated a few years ago from Mindanao, the largest island of the Philippines down south. Philippines has been part of the asiatic maritime trade for centuries even before the Spaniards came to our islands and subjugated it.

What i want to know is, is this a real, genuine Pig Dragon? This is a magnetic-type one.

Just an FYI: there were other pig dragons excavated in Sta.Ana, Manila decades ago that made news here in Luzon, Philippines. These were taken care of by the National Museum of the Philippines, two of the pig dragons were sneaked out during the excavation and were sold to private collectors.

Some other liangzhu and hongshan culture items like jade bi disks, nephrite yue axe, etc were also found in Central Luzon

This could be Chloromelanite, family of Jadeite. But Magnetic?? Maybe this a recently made ancient piece.
Definitely needs a hand-on check.

Thank you for the reply. I'll try to get the owner to show me this on the spot.

How do I differentiate modern fakes anyway?

What I am saying is, isn't there pig dragons that are also magnetic?

We are talking Jade. not pigs or dragons or anything else
the easy way of telling old from new is more than 30 years of studying (in my case more than 60 years, with me being lucky getting a good start with a few good Canadian Jade carvers.
