Subject:stone pendant
Posted By: david Sat, Dec 26, 2020 IP: 2607:fea8:1c01:e200:

Hello all! I realize this 3" stone pendant is NOT Asian but can anyone project an opinion on whether it is jade? It is pretty dense! and passes the "cool" test and does scratch! (with some effort!). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David

Your pendant resembles an Olmec greenstone effigy carving. Likely more modern and possibly jade. The term "greenstone" is often used when conclusive mineral analysis is lacking. I would recommend you perform a streak test and specific gravity test on the carving to start. You can probably do these at home with good results. Further analysis would include microscopic grain analysis and refractive index.

Attached is a deity I picked up years ago (likely dyed marble).

If this is Jade, it would be Jadeite/Diopside
The Ancient ones have cordel cuts. and yes, the cuts reveal that it is not ancient.
