Subject:Wood Boddisattva
Posted By: Robert Mon, Apr 28, 2008 IP: 76.111.125.159

Carved softwood Boddisattva with gesso and traces of colored pigments. There appears to be a gauze-like or fibrous material under the gesso layer, which was painted over and over many times during the course its life.

Age? Origin?

Hi Robert,

Nice Chinese sculpture. Circa 18th century, probably from the Yunan province/Shangri La area.

Best regards,
Pierre.

Hi Pierre,

Thanks! I will soon try to post a large alabaster reclining Kuan-yin, which you might be able to help me with.

Best wishes,

Robert

Hello. I have this sculpture of Kwan Yin or Guanyin, of the same characteristics as Robert says. (There appears to be a gauze-like or fibrous materials under the gesso layer, Which was painted over and over many times During the course STI life.)
Will it be the same period?
Do you have any idea of its value?
Thank You!
